Angling to Beat Stress – The Prize of a Lifetime

by George Ross

It might not be physically demanding, but the modern corporate life can really drain one’s energy and frazzle the nerves to the point where we just loose the appetite to do anything at all. This is a dilemma for people like me who prefer to move forward and be on top of situations. Most of us just get stuck in the rut of our daily routine and we become less efficient. We wonder how we can get our mojo running again.

Motivational experts say that people who work hard need a change in surroundings and activity from time to time to get recharged. A complete deviation from their normal environment and occupation could just do the trick. The city life can really test your energy and getting away from it once in a while is a staple to keep ones engine running.

A lot of people have taken up fishing as a leisure interest. It provides them with the quiet time they need, and provides them with goals to give them a sense of fulfillment. It is also a perfect activity for bonding time with family and friends. A dinner of fish to follow thereafter is not such a bad idea as well.

For beginners, fishing can be a tricky business. If it is what you are planning for a weekend leisure, trout fishing will be a good place to start in. Hare are some valuable tips to get you started.

The first thing to consider is your gear. This means your rod, line, and reel. Some people make the mistake of using gear that’s entirely inappropriate. Where rod and reel is concerned, ultra light action can be employed by beginners. A good rod to start with can be 5 to 6 feet. You may be able to distinguish them by looking for a UL mark on the shaft. Ultra light rods are also thinner.

Bear in mind to always match the reel with your rod. One of the common mistake by beginners is using a reel that is too heavy. Trouts have superb eyesight and they will be able to detect a heavy reel.

Baits should be presented in a natural manner. Fishes will be able to know if something’s amiss. Do not make the mistake of simply balling your bait and throwing it in the water. Make sure that the hooks you use will allow you to present your bait in it’s most natural state.

Finally, match it with an appropriate fishing boat. For beginners, a used boat might be a very good idea. Aside from the bucks saved, previous owners might have thrown in things that you might need on a boat like dock lines, life jackets, spare props, a radio, safety equipment, and other practical additions. You would shelve a fortune to get all of these brand new.

For those out to start a new weekend leisure, fishing can be an alienating adventure. If you know where and how to start though, you will find it will be a most relaxing and rewarding interest.
