People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help yourself or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.
You probably know someone who is depressed and are aware of the range of symptoms they may exhibit at any given time, even if they do not. Help is available long before the person suffering from depression exhibits every symptom and the sooner they receive help the better.
There is often a prolonged period of sadness and a lack of interest in doing anything. These two symptoms are still considered the best indicators of depression and something that doesn’t need a trained eye to spot.
Speaking of feeling sorry for yourself; another common symptom of depression is when a person actually feels like he or she has nothing to look forward to in their life. Extreme pessimism is another of the almost self destructive aspects of depression where nothing can go right and always seeing the worst in everyone and everything.
Self-guilt can also be combined with lethargy and a feeling of low self esteem to highlight the plight of the depressed individual. There is always the feeling that they do not deserve to be happy and this just increases the other symptoms they feel. Thus, the loss of self-worth, if that person feels like he or she isn’t worthy of being happy or enjoying one’s self then that’s clear tell-tale symptom of depression.

People suffering from depression, since they’ve lost whatever interest in life they may have had, are actually lacking of physical energy nearly all the time. Mental disorders such as depression often present signs of physical deterioration and there will undoubtedly be serious ramifications to their long term health if the situation does not improve.
Poor concentration on what is going on around them is another symptom of depression that is immediately apparent. Not only this but people suffering with symptoms of depression find it difficult to remember recent events and their attention span is limited.
People who sleep too much can have as many problems as those who sleep to little and may be part of the cause of memory failure and concentration troubles. Check for erratic behavior with food; for instance, is the person eating less than they usually do or more. Often when the situation has been allowed to continue, the person will have a morbid interest in death and dying but the worse aspect of depression is the effect it has on the sufferer’s health with headaches, digestive disorders and other pains being quite normal.
